Miniature Australian Shepherd Puppies

petland naperville aussie 2I love dogs. I love puppies even more! Of course, my puppies have all grown into dogs now. In fact, they are senior citizens! So, to get my "fix" of puppies, I love to stop in at Petland Aurora, where on any given day, they can have up to 100 (or more!) different puppies for sale. This gives me a great place to observe many different breeds of dogs in one setting. Today I watched a puppy called a Miniature Australian Shepherd, or as my Pet Counselor explained to me all I wanted to know about the Miniature Australian Shepherd, also commonly known as the Aussie.

The Miniature Australian Shepherd is a smaller version of the Australian Shepherd. Adult dogs weigh between 17 and 30 pounds. Just because they are smaller, though, it does not mean that they are any less active. This breed NEEDS to be active. While they are easy to train, they need to have plenty of things to do to keep them occupied. They can be found on farms for just this reason---they love to herd animals, perform in agility tests, and run around a lot. If you don't have a farm they can still thrive in your home environment. Don't be surprised, though, if they try to "herd" people---nipping at their ankles as they go about their "chore." This trait is so inbred in them that you usually cannot change it. It's important that you find something "useful" for your Miniature Australian Shepherd to do, even if that means chasing birds in a fenced backyard. If you'd like to do something fun with your Miniature Australian Shepherd, you can train it to compete in herding trials!

Miniature Australian Shepherds are very intelligent, and are very easy to train. They also want to win their owner's approval, so they try hard to be successful in learning new tricks. They are also loyal family members and do great with children. Because of their loyalty, they may suffer from separation anxiety if left alone for long periods of time. This can lead to destructive behavior, so my Pet Counselor highly recommended putting the Miniature Australian Shepherd in a locked crate or kennel if you have to go to work.petland naperville aussie 1

Miniature Australian Shepherds have beautiful coats of hair. It does not require much in the way of grooming, except during shedding season, when it's best to brush out the loose hair. The hair can come in quite a wide variety of colors too. Lucky for me, I got to play with a "merle" colored puppy, which means a blue/grey coloring with black splotches here and there. This coat was absolutely beautiful.

Overall, I really enjoyed my time with the Miniature Australian Shepherd puppy. I was glad to have a Pet Counselor who knew all about Miniature Australian Shepherds help me to discover new facts about this breed of dog. I love the fact that it is small in stature but stands regally, and is good with people. I absolutely love that they can come in different color combinations. When you are ready to add a new puppy to your family, I would highly recommend that you go to Petland Aurora to find one.
