All About the Siberian Husky

Petland Aurora Siberian Husky PuppiesI'm searching for the perfect dog. Of course, "perfect" is in the eye of the beholder. That can be seen on any given day at Petland Aurora, where they can have up to 100 (or more!) different puppies for sale. This gives me a great place to observe many different breeds of dogs in one setting. Today I watched a Siberian Husky, and boy is this a beautiful breed. Let me tell you all about the Siberian Husky.

The Siberian Husky is a medium-sized dog, and is considered a "working dog." Males can weigh 45-60 pounds, and females 35-50 pounds. The Siberian Husky is covered in fur, which really requires the dedication of a weekly brushing to keep shedding under control. That's okay, because it is a great opportunity to bond with your pet. The Siberian Husky makes a very loyal and outgoing pet.

Petland Aurora Siberian HuskyHuskies also need daily exercise (either through a walk or a fenced back yard). These dogs were bred for hundreds of years to pull heavy loads in extremely cold weather. They enjoy a good workout, but you have to be careful not to over-exercise in hot weather due to their coats. Another thing you have to look out for is overfeeding your Siberian Husky. Compared to other breeds of this size, the Siberian Husky needs significantly less food, although the food must be nutrient-dense. 100% meat (organ meat, fat and bone meal are best), with just a hint of fruits/vegetables as treats make an ideal diet, and Petland Aurora sells exactly the right nutrient-dense food for your Siberian Husky.

There is something really neat that I learned at Petland Aurora---Siberian Huskies can come in many colors! Everyone has seen the typical black and white or gray and white Siberian Husky. But, did you know that they can also come in red and white? This color combination is truly a beautiful site. Another color that surprised me was simply all white, which is another unique color for the Siberian Husky breed.

One nice thing to know about the Siberian Husky is that it is generally a healthy breed. If anybody has ever spent a lot of time in the vet's office because of health issues that come with certain breeds, you and your wallet know what I'm talking about!

Overall, I really enjoyed my time with a Siberian Husky. I love the fact that it is incredibly fluffy and good with people. I absolutely love the red and white color combination---so different from the norm. That hairy coat is gorgeous, but also can create quite a mess if you don't give it the attention that it needs. I recommend the Siberian Husky to anyone with a family, and I'm sure you can find beautiful examples of this breed at Petland Aurora.
